BETH R. SLUSHER
Beth was all about music during her college years as she toured with the Ball State University Singers while earning her degree in vocal performance. Just a year after graduating, she co-founded Rivar’s Custom Show Apparel with her sister. Since that time, she has helped dress thousands of talented singers and performers throughout the world. Serving on the board of directors for Give A Note Foundation, she is honored to share her passion for music through the support of music education.
Director of Sales
Tara wore her first Rivar’s dress as a singer/dancer in FC Singers at Franklin Central High School. She can still remember the excitement and how special it made her feel. Tara loves sharing her passion for show choir and Rivar’s with all her customers throughout the world.
Productions Operations Manager
Angel brings a passion to Rivar’s that is infectious! With a background in music, dance and fashion, Angel is the perfect match for Rivar’s. Angel moved to Indianapolis in 2008 from his native Puerto Rico. In his youth, he dreamed of performing on the big stage while participating in choral groups. Fashion became the focal point during and after college, but always with music industry ties. Once in Indy, Angel was thrilled to land a First Tenor position with the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus. “As Rivar’s Production/Operations Manager, I am bringing all my knowledge and experience of 20+ years in fashion garment construction, garment pattern development, industrial sewing floor organization and management to a fantastic team and company.” Or, in Angel’s other words, “Dream job!!”
Many of Lori’s fondest childhood memories involve listening to her grandfather’s record collection of classic music. Aside from loving music, Lori loves numbers. She graduated from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business where she majored in accounting. Working at Rivar’s has afforded her the opportunity of working close to home and having a flexible schedule so she can do her favorite job—being a mom to her sons Grant and Lincoln.
Rivar’s is in Lindsey’s blood. Not only did she wear Rivar’s dresses during her high school and college performance days, she was a model in their catalog and style show. As a Rivar’s Account Manager, Lindsey is delighted to help customers “experience the excitement that comes over you when you finally have the opportunity to try on on your Rivar’s dress for the first time,” and she very much enjoys the chance to help choir directors bring their vision to life. While her stage days are over, Lindsey says she’ll “always hold a special place in my heart for a sequined dress — and you’re never too old to belt out Disney tunes holding a hairbrush as a microphone!”
With her bachelor’s in fashion design from the Art Institute of Indianapolis, Rebecca has loved being apart of the entire process, from helping a customer decide on a style of costume to seeing the end product in concert. Rebecca is passionate about the apparel produced at Rivar’s and wants to tell everyone about it. She has an eye for fashion as well as an ear for music, having taught herself how to play piano and singing in her church choir. Music has become what reminds Rebecca of all the good memories she had growing up.
Ari’s show choir roots and fashion design degree make her a natural fit at Rivar’s . . . or as she puts it, “working at Rivar’s allows me to meet wonderful people who love music (and sparkly dresses) just as much as I do!” According to her parents, Ari started singing as soon as she could make noises, and continued on through her Warren Central show choir days. A graduate of Ball State, Ari is able to allow her passion for fabric and fashion to shine as brightly as the quality clothing that Rivar’s creates for its customers. “I see all the hard work that goes into making our apparel, and I would recommend our services to anyone who wants to make a statement and work with a kind, caring and professional company.”
Like so many of her co-workers, Lynn has had a lifelong love affair with music and fashion. While in college, she was a member of the Ball State University Singers (Lynn traveled to China with the group and reports that her dream of becoming a pop star in China is still very real!) as well as a performer at Cedar Point Amusement Park. After living in New York City and Miami for a few years, Lynn decided to return to Indiana — Rivar’s was the obvious choice for a new career path. “Having been involved with show choir for many years I have a very good understanding of the amount of effort, energy and passion that people have for this wonderful art! Creating the perfect costumes for a show is just as important as any other part of the production process.”
Sarah began her career at Rivar’s in the shipping department for two days before it was discovered that she was an excellent seamstress. Sewing is a true passion, she even writes a blog about her sewing adventures. She also enjoys knitting, embroidery, photography and cooking.
Kristen graduated from Purdue University with a degree in apparel design and is very excited that her job doesn’t include having to be on stage. After a brief encounter with a saxophone in middle school, Kristen decided that playing an instrument wasn’t for her, but listening to music is still an integral part of her everyday life. Kristen appreciates the way Rivar’s values their employees as individuals and looks forward to adding her design perspective to the company in a meaningful way.
Senior Pattern Maker
When David first applied for his job at Rivar’s, he was surprised to be met by Ted wearing a Buffalo Bills sweatshirt — but since David was from New York, it was a welcome site! It was the first hint of the welcoming and friendly, family-like environment David enjoys at Rivar’s. He also enjoys making patterns and hearing how excited the customers are when they put on their finished garments. Their excitement is a true reflection of the skill and pride David puts into all his work.
Quality Control Supervisor
A “self-proclaimed show tunes addict,” William started doing costumes for theater productions and studied Apparel Design at Ball State. He began his career at Rivar’s as a seamster and is fascinated by apparel production and the opportunities it opens for individuals throughout the production chain. William is a bona fide cat lover and a huge fan of Rivar’s turquoise celebrity fabric, noting “it is my favorite fabric EVER!”
Customer Service Assistant
It was inevitable that Tina would wind up working at Rivar’s: “It was the natural progression of my sequin addiction” she says. Music might also have something to do with it. Tina began dancing at the age of three and continued through high school. She performed with the Ball State University Singers in addition to serving as the head choreographer. She also toured the Soviet Union and Poland, and won the Bob Hope Search for the Tops in Collegiate Talent with the BSU Singers. Tina goes on to share that she was part of the Marion High School 26th Street Singers, who won the first show choir competition ever held in 1975, “effectively making me show choir royalty and very old.”
